What inspired you to get into the roofing business, and how did Blue Moon Roofing come to be?

Roofing is one of the most complained about business’s according to the Better Business Bureau, nails are left in yards, roofs are not installed to manufacturer spec and attics are not properly checked. I knew that clients wanted a better, more trusted option when it came time to replace their roof so we founded Blue Moon Roofing & Gutters to rebuild trust in the roofing industry.

I’ve spent the last seven years running a successful roof cleaning and exterior maintenance company here in Portland, serving thousands of homeowners. Over time, we kept seeing the same problems with roofing, messy job sites, poor communication, and corners being cut. I saw an opportunity to do it better.

Blue Moon Roofing & Gutters was born out of that vision: to raise the standard and rebuild trust in the roofing industry. Every detail matters to us—from using six nails per shingle and ensuring proper attic ventilation, to leaving every yard spotless. I partnered with my friend Travis, who brings years of experience scaling service businesses, and together we’re committed to bringing professionalism and craftsmanship back to roofing.

What do you enjoy most about running Blue Moon Roofing?

Protecting clients homes is always top of mine, but providing piece of mind that the installation was done right with 6 nails per shingle and that no nails will be left in the yard. The installation crew will be top notch and your property will be respected.

What I enjoy most is knowing we’re protecting people’s homes the right way. A roof is one of the most important parts of a home, and when it’s done properly with attention to detail and no shortcuts it gives families real peace of mind. I also love seeing how clean and professional our jobsites are compared to what’s typical in the industry. We take pride in the little things, clean yards, good communication, no surprises. It’s rewarding to build a company that homeowners can truly trust.

Who’s someone who’s had a big influence on your life or career?

One of the biggest influences on my life and career has been my dad. He taught me the value of hard work, integrity, and doing things the right way even when no one’s watching. Those lessons have shaped the way I run my businesses and approach leadership. I’ve also been impacted by mentors and business owners I’ve looked up to over the years people who weren’t afraid to take risks, think long-term, and lead with purpose. I try to carry those same values into Blue Moon Roofing every day.

I am thankful to have had a handful of mentors in the construction industry, from my father who started a Heating & Air Conditioning company in 1979 to people like Ismael Valdez and Travis Ringe who own roofing businesses in other states.

When I’m not working, I’m usually with my family. I’m married with four kids, so life stays busy in the best way. We love spending time outdoors, camping, hiking, and just enjoying nature together. I stay involved in my kids’ sports, whether it’s coaching or cheering from the sidelines. Outside of family time, I enjoy working out and running to stay active and keep pushing myself. Faith, family, and fitness are all core parts of my life and keep me grounded outside of work.

What’s a skill or hobby you have that might surprise people?

A skill that might surprise people is that I’m a black belt in Taekwondo. I trained for years, and it taught me a lot about discipline, focus, and mental toughness. I’ve also ran an ultra-marathon just over 52 miles in one day. It was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done, but it showed me how much more we’re capable of when we push past our limits.
